2013-07-17_1613Being a responsible pet parent is not just a title- it is an important role in your pet’s life. As for me, I am a full-time student, a full-time Raw Pet Food Specialist, and mother of a 2 year old boy, 6 year old cat, and 8 month old pup. Sounds like a lot to take on right? My life is definitely filled with responsibilities.

Although I am always busy with mommy-duties, I always make time to spend with my little ones. Out of all of the responsibilities and obligations that I have, being a parent is the most important to me. After all, my son (Evan), Mookie, and Phil depend on me, and are the reason I work so hard to maintain a healthy life for my entire family.

Being a dog mom is a great source of pride, but also comes with great responsibilities. Keeping Mookie happy and healthy is paramount to being a good Dog Mom. Of course, I started Mookie as a young pup on the BARF Diet. I knew that giving her a healthy and natural diet was going to contribute to her overall well-being and active lifestyle.

Our pets are members of the family, and Mookie is definitely a blessing. There are many factors to consider in order to ensure a healthy life for your pet. Proper training and a daily routine for you and your dog make day-to-day life run more smoothly. Maintaining a healthy and sanitary environment is not only important for Mookie, but for my entire family. I make it a priority to keep her bedding and play area clean. Using the Diatomaceous Earth on her bedding and in the yard not only keeps the fleas and ticks away but keeps the area with minimal insects. As a mom this definitely reduces some of my worries for insect bites and creepy crawlers. Yuck!

Along with maintaining a healthy environment for your pets and family, it is important to remain prepared for accidents or mishaps that can happen. This includes scrapes, cuts and sprains. A good thing to ALWAYS have on hand is a well-stocked first aid kit. The K-911 Kit works great for us, as well as our pets. This is because is includes all the materials you would need to properly clean and treat a wound on the spot!

The remedy I like to use for cuts that is included in this kit is the Sovereign Silver First Aid Gel. It treats cuts without the sting! I was recently told a story about a BARF customer of ours that was camping last year with her family. She took her dog to a lake and while swimming, cut an artery in the hind leg on something in the water. Her dog’s life was saved by a passer-by that happened to have some bandages, which allowed her to dress the wound until she could get to the emergency room. As a mom, it is frightening to see someone you love in pain and I feel that it is my responsibility to share this story with you, helping you to be equipped for the summer outings and day-to-day activities.

Having a furry friend certainly can affect us as people, because I believe that they teach us important life lessons. Mookie has taught me to be more understanding and to appreciate the small things. Whether I am relaxing with her in the backyard, or watching her and my little one chasing each other around, she absolutely is a joy to have around. Knowing that I am enabling her to have a long and healthy life is empowering as a pet parent.
