Attention Coffee Drinkers

Published on March 11, 2008 by in Health

At this time of year I receive many startling announcements of the new and promising health advances. I came across one this morning that was really worthy of repeating.  This has absolutely nothing to do with increasing your knowledge of dog food information but it may be worth your time to see the newest release of information on the health advantages of coffee.

The news released is advocating the abundance of disease-fighting antioxidants called polyphenols that are contained in a cup of black caffeinated coffee. We have now learned that coffee is considered safe for most people to drink and in addition has benefits in being able to lower the risk of liver disease, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. Caffeinated coffee contains chlorogenic acid which may benefit the liver by stimulating the flow of bile and balancing blood sugar. A study conduced at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Oakland, Ca. found that coffee reduced the risk of alcohol-related cirrhosis. Other studies suggest that coffee supports liver health in general. Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health found that men who drank at least six 8-ounce cups daily reduced their risk of type 2 diabetes by more than 50%, and women’s lowered their risk by 30%. It was noted that decaffeinated coffee doesn’t have the same effect since most of the benefits are removed when the caffeine is taken out.

Regular coffee drinkers are 80% less likely to develop Parkinson’s. Even further studies have linked coffee with a possible lower risk of liver, colon, breast, and rectal and skin cancers. Plus caffeine has been helpful in treating asthma and headaches. Can you believe it- it was also found that coffee can help prevent cavities.

Here are the tips on how to get the most enjoyment out of your coffee:
1. Make your own coffee from fresh beans.
2. Drink it black- stirring in cream and sugar may negate some of the health benefits.
3. Moderation is key- use common sense to determine the right consumption for you.
4. If coffee makes you jittery, don’t drink it.
5. Only drink caffeinated coffee- -use only the full octane variety.
