All week I have been comparing ingredients used in various pet foods trying to rationalize why any consumer would subject their companion animals to the contaminants, chemicals, coloring agents, drying agents, flavoring agents, lubricants, sweetners, and texturizers that are used to mask, flavor, preserve, and basically make an unacceptable diet one that at least can be eaten by a dog or cat. I guess there is a science that exists in taking a product that is totally unpalatable and convert it to a palate enhanced gourmet food. I wish they would do that to some cough syrups or Milk of Magnesia. The contaminants, chemicals, and sweetening agents are an alarming exposure to this industry. More and more consumers are being educated about the inclusion of these ingredients and the potential harm they can cause. The vets offices are being filled each day with the ramifications of the inclusion of these elements in the diet. Depress the immune system, lower the nutrient utilization of the food, feed high carbohydrate laden food, and the result is obvious- shortened longevity, degenerative disease formation, and loss of vitality are the results.
The question you must ask yourself- how can this bag of dry dog food stay open for days on end without having the product spoil? Could it be the butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), Propylene glycol (used in antifreeze), or ethoxyquin that is added to the food as a preservative. Some chemists claim these chemicals are safe and have not been shown to cause any problems- yet the other side claims that they are a potential carcinogen, and cause skin problems and infertility in dogs. Again- the CHOICES we make determine our future health results for ourselves and our dogs and cats.
You are the guardian- they don’t have a choice- you do.
