The veterinarian waiting rooms are filled with a multitude of nutritional and degenerative health problems. Modern day pets have horrible teeth, rancid breath, severe arthritis or degenerative joint disease, cancers, diabetes, kidney failure, nasty greasy coats, and the list goes on and on. It is relatively similar to the human clinics that support the same or even worst conditions. What has happened in the last 50 years is attributed to the choices we make and the misguided advertisements that we see on all the news media.
Our fast paced world has evolved into a nutritional nightmare situation. The same mis-guided choices we make for ourselves are carried over into how we feed our pets. In many cases our pets end up looking like our care-takers because of the life style and diet choices we make. We have learned that premature aging is caused in large part by processed foods. The serious degenerative health conditions are being seen in younger and younger dogs. Excessive preventative health care measures and heat processed foods have slowly poisoned our pets to the point that it has become an epidemic situation.
The popularity of home-made raw food diets and the new introduction of raw meat based commercial prepared frozen foods have entered the scene. If we are to reverse the trend of deteriorating health conditions, it will be because of “going back to the simple- natures way of feeding”. If we follow the lessons of nature and let the animal exist on what it was designed to eat we can begin to revese the deteriorating trends of the last 50 years.
At BARF World I fend calls from hundreds of troubled consumers that are trying to learn better feeding habits for their pets. In this role, I gain first hand knowledge of the various concerns and problems that are causing the worst possible conditions in the animals consuming heat processed foods. I have spent a lifetime trying to train and educate consumers on the merits of raw feeding. Unless a giant trend is reversed, we will see an explosion of debilitating illnesses amoung our pet companions in the next 20 years. It will severely affect the future generations because of the decline in the immune system strength. The choices we make today will lay the foundation for future generations. The choices we make for ourselves are different than the choices we make for our pets. They don’t have a choice in most cases- we do.
